GRINDER PUMP INFORMATION

Everything from your house has to go through this pump system.  So you and your guests need to take some basic precautions to ensure years of reliable and dependable service. Your grinder pump system is designed for your wastewater disposal needs and is not a garbage disposal.

DO NOT USE WATER/FLUSH TOILETS IF THERE IS A POWER OUTAGE. THIS WILL CAUSE THE GRINDER PUMPS TO OVERFLOW AND BURN OUT.  AS WELL AS THE POSSIBILITY OF SEWAGE BACKING UP INTO YOUR UNIT.

Here is a list of Simple Rules

  1. DO NOT flush any cooking oils down the drain (use an old coffee can to discard)
  2. DO NOT flush pampers, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes, paper towels, or cat litter.
  3. DO NOT use Drano or Caustic Acids in your drain (this can destroy wiring & seals)
  4. DO NOT use powdered detergents, the best option is liquid detergents for your washer (it will not build up or cake on your controls and pump)

Natural Way to Unclog your Drains

Step 1 – Put DRY baking soda down the drain, about 3/4 of a cup.
Step 2 – Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar down the drain after the baking soda. Be sure to cover the drain immediately afterwards with a rag or plug, filling the hole completely so nothing can escape. This is because the interaction of the two will cause a “mini volcano” that will want to come up and out of the drain..you want to keep it down there.
Step 3 – Leave this concoction in the drain for about 30 minutes. While you are waiting, boil a tea kettle full of water.
Step 4 – After 30 minutes, remove the plug and slowly pour the HOT water down the drain.

Your drain should flow smoothly now. If not, repeat the process.

Please be advised that if your grinder pump is continually clogging up, more than likely someone is not following the SIMPLE RULES on this list.  If the problem persists, there will be an investigation, any persons found not abiding by these rules will be in violation and fined.

The dues collected every month are what we use to pay for these repairs, if the dues money has to keep going towards the grinder pumps, then we don’t have the money to do other things in the community.
